Historic Pittwater retreat Yamba seeking new bibliophile owners – BYO boat

Yamba, the idyllic Pittwater retreat, has been listed for sale.

Accessible only by boat, the 7,463-square-metre Scotland Island property has three separate waterfront titles, with two residences, a cute cabin and a vacant parcel of waterfront land.

It's one of Pittwater's most significant landholdings, set on the north-western side of the island.

It was built for the Robertson family of Angus & Robertson bookstores, with later owners including the Moran healthcare family.

The first A&R bookstore was opened in 110½ Market Street by David Angus in 1884, selling only secondhand books and then from 1886 in partnership with fellow Scot George Robertson.

The island retreat last sold when Kym Bermingham sold to the international art consultant Vivienne Sharpe and her partner, antiquarian bookseller Tim McCormick, in 2006.

Its been listed through David Watson of LJ Hooker Avalon and Ken Jacobs of Christie's International.

Yamba's 1915 renovated and extended five-bedroom house flows onto level lawns, a sandy beach where there are two boat sheds and two deepwater jetties.

The property is listed with $10 million plus price expectations. It's the largest holding on the 49-hectare island.
