Lend Lease has unveiled two harbourfront apartments in its Barangaroo south precinct.
Lend Lease's Barangaroo South managing director Andrew Wilson lodged the plans yesterday with the NSW government for the initial 159 apartments with the hope the first residents will move in mid-2015.
With every apartment having water views, around $20,000 a square metre is set to be the starting price of the 47 one-bedroom apartments, which will range from about $1 million.
The 100 two- bedroom units will be priced from $2 million. There will be just the 12 three-bedroom apartments.
Barangaroo South will eventually have about 700 apartments, and planning of apartments in the northern part is in flux as the Crown casino hotel plans get resolved.
The apartments are the work of Richard Francis-Jones of FJMT and Andrew Andersons of PTW.
The 10-storey building designed by Francis-Jones (pictured above) includes a striking cloud-shaped design for the apartments and balconies at the north of the 82 apartment building overlooking the new public square and harbour cove.
“Our building was inspired by the character of Sydney Harbour, for example, the expressive, organic form of the northern apartments celebrates and defines the adjacent public square and is reminiscent of the free-forms of clouds and waves that complement our sandstone harbour headlands,” Francis-Jones says.
The 77-apartment, eight-storey building designed by Andrew Andersons (pictured below) includes substantial rooftop gardens and green plantings.
“The human scale of the building, together with its green roof, solar collectors and dynamic facades create an aesthetic of informality and sustainability. The style is site-specific to create a strong ‘sense of place’,” Andersons says.
"Both buildings draw inspiration from the wharves, which originally jutted out into East Darling Harbour and Walsh Bay,” Wilson says.
