History in favour of a December rate hold: Tweet of the day

The Reserve Bank has cut the cash rate at just 29% of December rate cut meetings going back to 1990, David Scutt, a treasury dealer at Arab Bank Australia, has tweeted. At more than half of December monetary policy meetings, the RBA has left rates unchanged. The RBA did cut the cash rate last December – by 25 basis points, left it unchanged in 2010 and raised it by 25 basis points in 2009. |

Now, all signs point south for this market. A year ago vacancies were near zero but today they’re approaching 5%. Price growth has stopped and, according to Australian Property Monitors’ price graph, has started to dip below the red line.
