For many investors and astute buyers, reading metropolitan property markets hasn’t been easy in the last 12 months, and Melbourne is no exception. Population growth has been strong, but prices have largely tracked sideways. Auction clearance rates have been down, but many off-the-plan developments have sold well.
In this webinar Property Observer editor Jonathan Chancellor will host a discussion with Robert Papaleo, research director at property consulting firm Charter Keck Cramer. It will examine the state of the Melbourne market, looking at the major development hotspots such as Docklands and the CBD, population trends and the medium-term outlook for the region.
Jonathan Chancellor has been writing about property since the mid-1980s. His real estate reporting began with the Herald in Melbourne in 1983, and for 25 years from 1986 Jonathan was a fixture at the Sydney Morning Herald as its long-serving property editor, where he wrote Title Deeds, one of Australia's longest-running published columns. He has edited Property Observer since June 2011.
Robert Papaleo joined Charter in 1997 to establish its strategic research business unit and was appointed a director in 2002. He has undertaken major engagements for both private and public sector clients including compiling reports on the Docklands development and numerous reports on the state of the Melbourne residential apartment market.
