Kirribilli is a suburb located on Sydney's north Shore. It is positioned on the Lower North Shore of Sydney Harbour and is situated between Milsons Point and Lavender Bay. Kirribilli is considered to be one of Sydney's most affluent suburbs, with many large houses and expensive properties.
The suburb takes its name from the residence of John A. Macdonald, first Prime Minister of Canada, which was constructed in 1848 - the year New South Wales became a colony.
The history of Kirribilli can be traced back to pre-European times when the area was inhabited by the Cammeraygal people who were part of the larger Eora Nation.
The Cammeraygal tribe were known as 'the people who live by the water'. They primarily fished and hunted in local waters using bark canoes and spears.
The first European settlers arrived in Kirribilli in 1788 as part of Governor Arthur Phillip's original fleet of 11 ships.
