The Town and Country Hotel at St Peter's Sydney, immortalised in the Duncan song by Slim Dusty has been listed for May 24 Manenti Quinlan auction. The hotel is on Unwin's Bridge Road.

Agent Gerry Quinlan expects $2.5 million plus for the property.

It comes with 15 poker machines and potential redevelopment possibilities. The song was actually written by Pat Alexander seven years before it topped the charts in 1981 for two weeks.

Alexander wrote the song had come out of an experience while selling life insurance.

"I love to have a beer with Duncan, I love to have a beer with Dunc. We drink in moderation, and we never, never ever get rolling drunk. We drink at the Town and Country, where the atmosphere is great. I love to have a beer with Duncan 'cause Duncan's me mate."

Alexander sent one of his discs to Slim Dusty's post office box address and it was his wife, Joy McKean, who happened to play Duncan, and liked it.

Soon it was pressed by EMI as a single, and in November 1980, Radio 2UE listeners heard John Laws play it eleven times on the first morning.
