The 2012 winners of The Block, Brad Cranfield and Lara Welham, have bought up big in Byron.

They have spent $2.25 million after selling at Bishops Bridge in the Hunter Valley (above and below).

They’ve secured a trophy home on a recently subdivided parcel on one of the town’s best streets.

Cranfield was a fitter and machinist in the coal mining industry while Welham was a physical education teacher before the 2012 series. They now have two sons, Jimmy and Harry.

Following their Block win seven years ago, when they took home $606,000 prize earnings from their South Melbourne townhouse renovation, they spent $510,000 on 25 hectares in Bishops Bridge, which is between Maitland and Cessnock.

They built a designer home set at the end of a long drive.

The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home with six-metre-high ceilings and coloured cathedral glass panes was offloaded for $1,375,000, albeit a 200-plus days wait for their buyer. They had called it their “forever” home.

“It was one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever had to make as we poured four long years of blood, sweat and tears into creating our dream home,” Brad said.

“We look forward to creating our next forever home in Byron,” he told his 20,000 Instagram media followers.

Cranfield is now a real estate agent at Pacifico saying the transition was a “natural progression”.

He’s been spending time between sales, building a new deck around his Federation era house.

He works with former Block cameraman, Christian Sergiacomi, husband of The Block interior designer Shelley Craft.

Sergiacomi and Craft recently offloaded their home in Byron for $4.9 million, having paid $3 million for the Paul Uhlmann-designed residence in 2016.

Over their three-year ownership they added a pool and a studio in the landscaped grounds.

The couple are set to build nearby on a Belongil Beach block of land they paid $1.35 million for in 2017.
