Byron Bay property developer and 'Spa King' Eddie Phillips has forked out roughly $4.5 million for an off-the-plan Brisbane penthouse.

Construction has started on the boutique residential development, Maison, in New Farm, where Phillips has snapped up the top floor home.

He is working with Maison developers Rob and Andrew Gray of Graya, and Frank Licastro of Frank Developments to customise the penthouse.

Phillips, who made his fortune developing the Phillip Wain spa business in Hong Kong, recently sold his three-level Byron Bay trophy home known as Villa Gabrielle on Lighthouse Road for more than $9 million.

Maison is set to become a landmark development in Brisbane, featuring landscaped planting wraps that cascade along the curved façade.

The building at 60 Moray Street will comprise only five, full-floor sky homes — embracing the growing demand for low-maintenance apartments with house-like qualities.

There are now only three residences left, with the third level recently selling to a Sydney buyer for just over $3 million.

Mr Gray said there had been a lot of interest in the penthouse.
